One month ago, I took delivery of a new Kubota B2910HSD with a LA402 loader. I now have 10 hours of playing in the snow.This is an awesome machine!!!!!My tractor came with folding ROPS and thedealer tells me that with the folding ROPSthere is no protective PTO shaft coversupplied although my manual shows one.Does anyone know if that is correct?Edgar Robert

Do you mean the cover for the splined shaft (shaft cap)or the little fold up shield (cover)? My 2710 w/o folding ROPS has the cover and the cap. (no cap on the mid pto though)In fact it IS pointed out in the yellow safety sheets in front of the owners manual as "KEEP THE PTO SHAFT COVER ON AT ALL TIMES" so I would say you should have one on it. Got 44 hours on mine and love it. The sad part is that 24 of those hours are moving cold snow! ....

Aren't they fun?! Sometimes it seems that tractors are instinctive in the male animal. Even a five year old kid can tell you as much...and they are experts on fun.
Someone will have to help me out here. I cannot imagine a relationship between the ROPS and the PTO shaft cover. This must be something peculiar to Kubota. Have you asked another dealer?
In the history of tractors, a PTO shaft cover is a fairly recent safety part. It keeps you from winding up something in the shaft when you engage it by accident. So I'd get one regardless. When they first came out, dealers used to give them away as goodwill items. The good news is that not having one won't hurt the tractor a bit. ....

I have the same machine 6 months old and mine has one .
same folding rops.
same loader.
only differance is I went for the heated cab.,
and a weight box.
seems dangerous not to have a cover.
just my two cents.
....

I guess 'PTO cover' is the same thing I call a 'PTO shield'--a metal housing above the shaft. I don't get a connection between a ROSP and PTO shield either. However, I've never really looked a folding ROSP bar. Maybe some part of the lower mechanism goes inboard from the bar and swings up through the area where the shield is located. Seems a bit far-fetched, but maybe. Of course, manufacturers are supposed to be safety-oriented. It also seems far-fetched that a new tractor would be designed so a shield couldn't be used, or that a new tractor would be supplied without one. Don't know, something else is probably going on. ....

The B2910 comes with a rear PTO shaft COVER, and a rear PTO shaft CAP. The shaft cover is the u-shaped metal flange that wraps around the top and sides of the PTO and is intended as a safety shield. The cap is a black plastic cap that covers the PTO shaft itself and is supposed to keep gunk off the shaft. The manual says keep the COVER on at all times, and replace the CAP when the shaft is not in use. The ROPS has nothing whatsoever to do with the cover, and you should have a cover installed; my B2910 came with both btw. ....
